The (ongoing) Journey to Perfect Empty Glass Decant Bottles
Share
This past summer, I became more active in a fragrance community where members exchange and swap perfume samples and decants. Naturally, I purchased some perfume bottles from popular Asia-based e-commerce websites. When they arrived, almost all of them had small leaks. While this was somewhat expected, I faced a bigger issue twice when sending one of my favorite fragrances The Noir 29 by Le Labo , On both occasions, the vials smashed during postage.
This stuck with me because I imagined how disheartening it would feel as a recipient. Inspired to solve this problem, I started off on a journey to find empty glass decant bottles that were:
- Leak-proof
- Shatter-resistant
- Pressurized
- Lightweight with a lower center of gravity
I explored countless options, but none met all the criteria. Determined, I refined my search based on width and eventually found a manufacturer. After lengthy discussions, I convinced them to send me a trial batch of 1,000 loose bottles they had in stock. Following the trial, we collaborated to create a brand-new mold for 7.5mL empty glass decant bottles and later expanded to 10 mL and 5 mL designs.
Fast forward to the first day of this year, and we’re still refining our bottles thanks to the feedback from our amazing customers. A special shoutout to those who really pushed me and supported me over at:
